A large bookcase that frees up floor space
This modular wall-mounted bookcase perfectly illustrates one of the great advantages of this type of furniture: offering substantial storage capacity while preserving a sense of lightness in the room. The cabinets, shelves, and work surfaces are mounted on an open structure, revealing the wall behind and avoiding the heavy effect of a traditional floor-standing bookcase.
This design is particularly well suited to a living room, study, or large living space where one wishes to bring together books, decorative objects, and closed storage without multiplying freestanding pieces.
A compact footprint, another way of thinking about storage
The same need can now be met with far more compact furniture. When a large wall-mounted bookcase is not suited to the room’s layout, a shallow-depth storage piece preserves genuine storage capacity without encroaching excessively on circulation space.
This is notably the case with several Danish Omann Jun pieces currently available. Three small sideboards only 30 cm deep can be used separately or brought together in a long low run: small Omann Jun teak sideboard, Omann Jun low sideboard, and small Omann Jun low cabinet.
Six Omann Jun pieces currently available
Looking for more storage while maintaining contained proportions? Three other Omann Jun models are also offered: a two-door sideboard, a sideboard with two doors and six drawers, and a low sideboard with four drawers.
Wall-mounted bookcase or low sideboard thus address the same design challenge: preserving storage while controlling the furniture’s footprint in the room, with the restraint and timelessness inherent to Scandinavian design of the 1960s.
