French modernist oak sideboard from the 1950s, resting on elegant compass legs. Its design combines the sobriety of the Reconstruction era with several meticulously crafted details, such as its curved lower crossbar, two-tone sliding doors, and recessed red circular handles.
Behind its sliding panels, the interior reveals several storage compartments as well as removable shelves in the right section of the unit. A simple and functional design, characteristic of post-war French furniture.
The contrast between the blond oak, the yellow and grey panels, and the vibrant red handles gives the piece a warm and almost playful presence. A sideboard evoking certain research conducted during the 1950s into furniture that was both rational and elegant, in a spirit close to André Sornay or Roger Landault.
A Reconstruction-era sideboard with modernist accents
With its assertive compass legs, light lines, and graphic treatment of the sliding facades, this sideboard illustrates the evolution of French furniture during the 1950s. Halfway between a functional storage unit and a decorative creation, it retains all its freshness and evocative power today.
The furniture has been carefully renovated by our restorer.
Condition: Some signs of use consistent with the age of the furniture, notably a mark on one of the legs and slight discoloration on the top surface, visible in the photographs.
