Introduced in 1964, the Sirocco armchair by Swedish designer Arne Norell takes its name from the hot wind blowing from the Sahara toward the Mediterranean. While most Scandinavian designers associated this type of chair with the term “Safari,” like Kaare Klint, Wilhelm Kienzle, or Børge Mogensen, Arne Norell chose a more evocative reference, emphasizing the nomadic, traveling, and exotic character of his design. Combining a collapsible structure with generous suspended leather upholstery, the Sirocco quickly established itself as one of the most iconic creations of Scandinavian design from the 1960s and 1970s.
