1965 Artifort paper catalogue

The base is composed of brushed steel blades set upright and on edge, supporting a Carrara marble slab, likely Bianco Carrara Venato or Carrara C. The repetition of these vertical elements, reduced to their mere thickness, structures the piece with a great economy of means.

This almost elementary constructive principle gives the piece a presence that is both minimal and assertive. The design relies on a mastered contrast between the thinness of the steel segments and the solid mass of the marble top, without superfluous decorative effects. The balance lies in proportion and repetition, in a fully modernist spirit.

This Artifort 867 coffee table has never been moved since its acquisition in 1965. The catalogue shown was kept with the furniture by its original owner (provenance: Mr. X, Liège region). The top surface shows no signs of deterioration; its shine is intact. The steel structure shows slight signs of wear consistent with its age.

Please note: the lower part of one corner of the marble slab has a small, shallow chip, approximately 20 mm by 3 mm in height. Very subtle, it is only visible when viewed at table height (see photo).
