Kho Liang Ie and the Model 020 at Artifort
The model 020 designed by Kho Liang Ie for Artifort in 1958 is part of the early research into European post-war modernist furniture. This pair of vintage armchairs illustrates an approach where formal reduction and manufacturing quality take precedence over any decorative effect.
The brushed steel structure, combined with a leather seat, reflects a commitment to precision and clarity in design. The 020 lounge chairs by Kho Liang Ie for Artifort rest on balanced proportions, with a low, open seat designed to offer stable comfort without excess material.
In the late 1950s, Artifort began a significant transformation under his influence, directing production toward more contemporary forms. This model 020 belongs to this pivotal period, preceding the arrival of Pierre Paulin.
Direct provenance from the first owner – A modernist apartment
This set, coming from a first owner, maintains a restrained and structured presence, reinforced by the contrast between metal and leather. It integrates naturally into modernist or contemporary interiors, contributing to the creation of a coherent and distinctive interior.
A very beautiful bar counter from the same provenance is also visible on our site.
