Kho Liang Ie and the 020 Series at Artifort
The marble coffee table model 020 designed by Kho Liang Ie for Artifort circa 1960 is part of the development of post-war European modernist furniture. This marble coffee table Kho Liang Ie Artifort reflects a pursuit of balance between formal rigor and quality materials, without recourse to ornamentation.
The marble top, combined with a metal structure, creates a controlled contrast between mass and lightness. The whole rests on precise proportions, characteristic of Kho Liang Ie’s work, where each element contributes to a clear and immediate reading of the object.
In the late 1950s, Artifort initiated a decisive evolution by surrounding itself with designers capable of renewing its formal language. The 020 series is part of this pivotal period, preceding the arrival of Pierre Paulin, and marks an important step in asserting the publisher’s identity.
Through its sober and structured presence, this coffee table integrates naturally into modernist or contemporary interiors, contributing to the construction of a coherent and identifiable ensemble.
