Danish teak coffee table by Niels Bach, Randers

Produced in Denmark by A/S Niels Bach Møbelfabrik, this vintage coffee table belongs to the Scandinavian production developed by the Randers manufacture starting in the mid-1960s. Niels Bach is notably known for its teak tables, often identifiable by their robust yet always softened lines.

A/S Niels Bach Møbelfabrik was officially founded in Randers in 1965, at a time when Danish furniture was experiencing significant international distribution. Today, the manufacture remains less documented than certain major Danish Modern houses, but its production is recognized by a constant attention to proportions, the choice of wood species, and manufacturing quality. Coffee tables, side tables, and dining tables constitute a significant portion of Niels Bach furniture still present on the vintage Scandinavian design market.

Danish furniture centered on wood and proportions

This coffee table illustrates a furniture design in which the material occupies a central place. The teak brings its warm nuances and contrasting grain, while the deliberately sober design avoids any superfluous decorative elements. Visual interest thus arises directly from the combination of the piece’s structure, its proportions, and the wood surface.

The tenons extend cleverly beyond the edges of the top, an attention to detail typically Danish.

Teak restored in our workshop

This table was handled in our vintage furniture restoration workshop. The surface was prepared before the application of an oiled finish intended to nourish the wood and recover the natural depth of its nuances.

This treatment particularly highlights the teak grain. The golden brown tones are reinforced while the natural variations of the wood become clearly visible again, without creating the uniform appearance that an overly opaque finish might produce.

The restoration thus allows the character of the piece to be preserved while making its surface suitable for daily use. The result emphasizes the simplicity of the design and the quality of the material, two essential elements in Niels Bach’s production. It constitutes a representative example of this Danish production where wood quality, proportions, and manufacturing precision take precedence over decorative effect.
