These turned wood and straw fireplace stools exemplify traditional French craftsmanship, currently experiencing a resurgence among 20th-century design enthusiasts. Their simple construction, use of natural materials, and low proportions evoke mountain interiors and regional furniture reinterpreted post-war.
Straw-seated Stools and Mountain Furniture
In design from the 1950s to the 1970s, research by Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Chapo, Guillerme et Chambron, and Savoyard furniture contributed to rehabilitating the aesthetic of wood, straw, and vernacular forms. This ambiance, associated with Les Arcs, Méribel, and alpine interiors, explains the current interest in these straw-seated pieces, sought after by admirers of this warm and natural aesthetic.
Their compact size makes them easily movable occasional seating, particularly well-suited for furnishing a Parisian apartment, a country house, a boutique, a hotel, a restaurant, or even a co-working space. Their convivial character and small footprint allow them to be easily integrated into many contemporary interiors.
Restoration: The woodwork has been oil-treated to revive its patina. The straw seats are stable and solid. One seat has a slight straw imperfection, which does not affect its strength. The visible cracks in the wood are old, perfectly stabilized, and contribute to the authentic character of this 1960s set.
