Wooden Burmese Buddha, Ava

6800,00

  • Large Burmese carved wood Buddha, depicted in the bhūmisparśa mudrā posture, the gesture of calling the earth to witness, characteristic of Theravāda Buddhism.
  • The throne, still low and discreet, belongs to the Ava style; however, pointed lotus leaves appear, foreshadowing the more elaborate decorations of Konbaung period thrones.
  • Myanmar, Ava, late 17th – early 18th century (Late Ava, Konbaung transition).
  • Very good condition. The ushnisha flame is missing. Wood additions under the base, made during old restorations (circa 1960), compensate for the tilt caused by the natural movement of the wood.
  • Provenance: Claude de Marteau Collection.
  • Sold with certificate of origin.
  • H 75 CM X D 41 CM X W 54 CM.
