DS-80 Daybed Sofa in Patchwork Leather by de Sede
The mattress has been replaced, while the leather has been cleaned and rehydrated by our restorer to preserve its suppleness and the richness of its original patina. A slightly darker strip corresponds to an older restoration. A small hole has also been reinforced from the inside with a period leather patch. Two additional cushions accompany the set.
The armrests and backrest are individually removable, allowing for various configurations of use as a sofa, chaise longue, or daybed. This modularity contributes to the model’s particularly free and informal comfort.
Produced by de Sede during the 1970s, the DS-80 model is among the most unique creations produced by the Swiss manufacturer during this period. Halfway between a modular sofa, a daybed, and a lounge seat, it develops a low, horizontal aesthetic evoking certain Japanese-inspired influences present in 1970s international design.
After more than fifty years, the leather presents a deep and nuanced patina whose natural variations give the model a presence that has become difficult to find in contemporary productions.
The DS-80 immediately stands out with its assembly of large patchwork leather panels forming a particularly expressive surface. This construction accentuates the almost architectural dimension of the model while highlighting the quality of the thick leather traditionally used by de Sede.
The deliberately low volumes, combined with generous proportions, reinforce the enveloping aspect of the model while illustrating the approach developed by de Sede during the 1970s: sculptural, modular furniture designed for particularly comfortable use.
