Imposing round ceiling light from the 1970s, composed of a thick, high-relief moulded-glass disc mounted on a metal base. Unlit, the glass has an almost mineral appearance; lit, its multiple asperities catch and fragment the light, revealing the full depth of its patterning.

  • The diffuser is moulded with a screw-thread fitting; once the support is in place and wired, you simply slot it in and turn it to secure it.
  • Its base is fitted with 5 lamp holders; the LED bulbs are included.
  • Diameter 49 cm x H 17 cm.
  • A pair of glass and metal wall sconces, matching this light fixture, soon to be available.

A 1970s ceiling light sculpted by light

Simply switch it on and this ceiling light completely changes its presence. Its wide, very thick moulded-glass diffuser is crossed by a multitude of irregular reliefs that catch the light, deflect it, and send it back in every direction. With warm lighting, the transparent surface takes on almost golden reflections, while the thickest areas of the glass gain depth.

The design is particularly successful because it does not rely on applied decoration: the glass itself provides the ornament. Seen from the front, the relief gradually tightens toward the centre; on the edge, it becomes more geometric, made up of a succession of deeply moulded rectangular forms. This dense texture gives the fixture an almost mineral appearance, halfway between fractured ice and a sculpted glass wall.

The construction nevertheless remains very simple. A solid glass disc, a circular metal mount, and no superfluous ornament: the entire identity of this 1970s ceiling light rests on the contrast between an elementary form and an extremely worked material.

Without belonging to it in the strict sense, its thickness, pronounced relief, and deliberately massive appearance echo certain Brutalist explorations of the 1970s, where material and texture become an integral part of the design.

Among vintage and design ceiling lights, this type of model also has a very practical advantage: it gives the ceiling a real presence without dropping into the room like a pendant. Its generous proportions make it an original ceiling light for an entryway, living room, bedroom, or a well-proportioned hallway.

More than a simple lighting fixture, it belongs to that generation of design luminaires in which light is used to reveal material. Unlit, it is a strongly textured glass disc; lit, it becomes almost a luminous surface in motion.
