Peill & Putzler speckled glass sconces, 1970s

This pair of vintage wall sconces by Peill & Putzler illustrates German glassmaking expertise from the 1970s. Their flared, almost floral silhouette is enlivened by speckled glass with orange, amber, and green inclusions, a composition reminiscent of certain decorative explorations by Murano glassmakers.

A true source of light and warmth.

The inner layer of white opaline glass ensures a soft diffusion of light, while the outer surface reveals the full richness of its colors. When off, these sconces retain a strong decorative presence; when lit, they take on warm tones, with shades that shift according to light intensity.

Peill & Putzler designed these sconces to be installed facing either upward or downward. Depending on their orientation, they cast light toward the ceiling or illuminate the space below more fully. A notable feature for framing a mirror, enhancing a hallway, or creating ambient lighting in a living room.

Peill & Putzler, the art of glass serving light

The Peill & Putzler manufactory developed an extensive range of glass light fixtures. Its late-1970s catalogues notably feature the Fuga series, whose models combine lined opaline glass, colored inclusions, and metal structures with gilded finishes (solid brass and brassed aluminum).

The brass base contrasts with the speckled glass, visually detaching the sconces from the wall.

The enveloping lines of these sconces and their gilded metal supports make them a particularly compelling choice for adding ambient light to a private or professional setting. They are equally suited to a restaurant, bar, or hotel lobby where lighting and decorative presence go hand in hand.
