Vintage armchairs and 20th-century designer armchairs: this selection brings together French, Italian, Scandinavian, and Belgian models, chosen for the quality of their design, materials, and construction. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the armchair became a true field of experimentation for designers, as well as for many architects and decorators, who worked with wood and metal as well as fiberglass, leather, or new synthetic materials.

The clean lines of modernism coexist with more enveloping or sculptural seating, from low lounge chairs to armchairs with exposed structures. A Paulin armchair can thus share a living room or office with the wire structure of a Bertoia armchair, two very different approaches that testify to the richness of research conducted around seating in the 20th century.

The selection includes signed pieces as well as anonymous models representative of their era. Armchairs requiring intervention are restored in our workshop, with particular attention paid to structures, foams, straps, and coverings. Depending on the model and period, they can be re-upholstered in different furnishing fabrics, notably Kvadrat fabrics, chosen according to their texture, resistance, and suitability for the armchair’s design.

Whether it’s a 1960s armchair with low, enveloping lines or a more rigorous model from the 1950s or 70s, each piece reflects the evolution of domestic uses and furniture, between the search for comfort, lightness of structures, and increasing freedom in forms.
