Six Scandinavian chairs with curved backrests – 1960s

€2280,00

Set of six Scandinavian chairs in teak from the 1960s, with a backrest highlighted by a wide, slightly curved wooden band for comfortable support.

The upholstered seat stands clearly apart from the frame, giving the impression that it rests independently of the structure. The slender rear legs, rounded-cut stretchers, and the contrast between warm teak and light fabric create a strong sense of visual lightness.

These six chairs benefited from restoration of their wooden structures and a new upholstery fabric cover in our restoration workshop.

Six 1960s Scandinavian chairs: restoration, durability and passing them on

These six Scandinavian chairs in teak from the 1960s were entrusted to us as part of a family furniture inventory. Their construction and the distinctive nature of their design led us to undertake their rehabilitation in our restoration workshop, to preserve their original qualities and extend their use for many years to come.

Work on the woodwork focused in particular on checking and reinforcing the joints. The chairs were clamped using bar clamps to hold the parts in place during re-gluing and restore the strength of the structures. An essential intervention to extend the life of this furniture designed more than sixty years ago.

Restoring chair woodwork, 1960s

After dismantling, the parts are cleaned, sanded, then oiled. The chair is then reassembled, with particular care given to the strength of the joints.

All six seats also received a new covering in ecru upholstery fabric, with a subtly woven texture. Each seat was upholstered individually, with particular attention paid to fabric tension, rounded edges, and the consistency of the finishing.

Reupholstering 1960s Scandinavian chairs

The new textured plain-weave fabric was chosen to match the chairs’ style while being suitable for everyday use.

Beyond being restored, these chairs retain what makes period Scandinavian furniture so appealing: a distinctive design, well-balanced proportions, and manufacturing details not necessarily found in contemporary production. Their restoration therefore preserves six original pieces rather than replacing them, while preparing them for many more years of use.

The subtle shades of teak reveal a distinctive character, enhanced by careful restoration. These chairs are ready for many years to come.

Paired with an antique or contemporary dining table, they offer a durable alternative to new furniture, with the character and history of pieces that have already spanned several decades.
