KIT Series Desk – Airborne and Gilles Bouchez

An internationally renowned publisher, Airborne played a major role in promoting furniture by leading French designers such as Pierre Paulin, Olivier Mourgue, Pierre Guariche, and Michel Cadestin. In this spirit, the KIT Series reflects a drive for modularity and streamlined furniture design, in line with the concerns of the 1960s and 1970s.

Presented at the CREAC during the Eurodomus 4 Salon in Turin, from May 18 to 26, 1972, the KIT Series embodies this drive for innovation. It offers functional, adaptable furniture designed to meet the changing needs of contemporary lifestyles.

A DPLG-qualified architect since 1967, Gilles Bouchez trained in Georges Candilis’s studio. His approach stands out for its close attention to the fluidity of volumes and the brightness of spaces. This architectural sensibility is reflected in his furniture designs, where structure and use are balanced with precision.

He founded his architecture firm in Paris in 1980, in the 10th arrondissement, and developed a practice spanning both public projects—facilities, collective housing—and private commissions. Notable works include projects at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris for the Economic and Social Council, as well as the Belfort convention center.

His firm, made up of around ten collaborators, operates at the crossroads of architecture, urban planning, and design, in France and internationally. This versatility is echoed in the KIT Series, where architectural thinking translates into furniture that is structured, clear, and suited to its environment.
