Kaiser Leuchten textured glass ceiling light – 1970s German design

This square textured glass ceiling light is a 1970s production by Kaiser Leuchten. Its diffuser consists of a thick pressed glass slab whose deeply grained surface animates the light, providing the fixture with its characteristic presence and personality. The square frame with softened corners tempers the geometric rigor of the piece, lending it a highly architectural presence.

A small footprint, a strong personality.

Measuring 37 × 37 cm with a height of only 10 cm, it belongs to the family of compact ceiling lights, particularly advantageous for maintaining maximum ceiling height. It naturally finds its place in an entryway, hallway, bedroom, or living room where a pendant lamp would be less suitable.

Behind the glass, four E27 porcelain sockets distribute the light sources across the entire surface. The texture of the glass breaks the direct perception of the bulbs, transforming the slab into a decorative element whether switched on or off. This use of molded and pressed glass is highly representative of the research conducted in European lighting during the 1970s, where material and optical effects fully participate in the object’s design.

The rounded corners of the ceiling light accentuate the deeply marked material effect of the glass.

While its form and material clearly place it within 1970s design, this ceiling light maintains a sufficiently sober aesthetic to integrate into a contemporary interior. Its square format also offers an alternative to more common round ceiling lights, with a clean geometry that works particularly well in minimalist architecture.

The steel mounting bracket is equipped with four E27 porcelain sockets. The wiring has been checked by our restorer and four LED bulbs are provided. Discover also our selection of vintage and designer ceiling lights.
