Textured Murano glass wall sconces, Italy, 1970s
This pair of Italian wall sconces from the 1970s features a translucent frosted-texture Murano glass plate, enlivened with inclusions that diffuse the light softly and irregularly. The white cast-glass plate is held by a central lucite knob on a gilt steel frame.
The glass’s organic relief creates a dense, nuanced lighting effect. These glass pieces most likely come from the molded or textured glass productions developed in Italy during the 1960s and 1970s. When lit, the sconces cast a warm light that highlights the surface variations and inclusions within the material.
With their minimalist composition and the combination of translucent glass, lucite, and gilt metal, these sconces evoke certain Italian decorative lighting designs from the 1970s. They work equally well in a vintage or contemporary interior.
The glass plates are independent and easy to maintain.
This model can also be matched with the “Trio” versions in our catalog.
