Pair of Large Undulating Murano Glass Wall Sconces
This model of vintage wall sconces is available in three distinct sizes. This pair corresponds to the large format, whose proportions particularly highlight the glass’s thickness and relief.
A Large Textured Glass Wall Sconce
The distinctive quality of these Italian wall sconces lies in the exceptionally rich craftsmanship of the Murano glass. The thick, transparent slab is traversed by long, irregular horizontal undulations. Its inner surface presents a much more granular texture, composed of a multitude of small crystals and glass shards that catch the light.
This combination of undulating glass, textured glass, and crystalline inclusions gives the sconce two very different appearances. When off and observed in daylight, it remains clear and almost mineral: the reliefs, bubbles, and small glass fragments become perfectly visible. Once illuminated, this same texture breaks down the light into a multitude of luminous points, making the entire thickness of the glass sparkle.
A Glass and Gilded Metal Sconce That Reveals Light
The light source disappears behind the glass’s thickness, ensuring that the bulb does not visually dominate; instead, the glass itself appears to illuminate. The undulating reliefs refract the light while the crystalline surface diffuses it, creating variations in intensity and numerous reflections across the entire facade.

The reverse of the plates, studded with small glass crystals that reflect and fragment light — sconce on and off.
This large format is particularly suited for those seeking a decorative glass wall sconce capable of visually occupying a wall even when unlit. Installed as a pair, these wall sconces can frame a mirror, a work of art, or an enfilade, or be placed on either side of a bed. Their transparent glass allows them to maintain a light presence despite their dimensions.
1970s Italian Glass Sconces
The glasswork constitutes the essence of the design here. The undulations are not merely decorative; their succession imparts rhythm and movement to the rectangular facade. The small transparent acrylic fixings naturally recede, allowing full prominence to the material and light.
This type of luminaire is representative of the explorations undertaken by Italian glassworks and manufacturers during the 1960s and 1970s concerning molded and cast glass, textured and highly worked. Light is no longer merely diffused through a reflector; it becomes a means to reveal the very structure of the glass, its undulations, and its surface studded with small crystals.
