Louis Kalff’s modernist design for Philips
This pair of designer wall lamps, model NX40, designed by Louis Kalff for Philips, perfectly illustrates the refinement of Dutch design from the 1950s. Their white lacquered aluminum frame supports an elegant curved walnut or teak band, while a translucent satin glass cylinder diffuses a soft, even light. This combination of fine materials and clean lines makes these wall lights a remarkable example of post-war modernism.
Warm light for a timeless interior
Thanks to their satin glass diffuser, these vintage wall lamps provide pleasant, glare-free lighting—ideal for a living room, bedroom, hallway, or entryway. Installed on either side of a sideboard, headboard, or bookcase, they highlight surrounding materials while casting a warm glow perfectly suited to contemporary interiors as well as vintage or Scandinavian décor.
This pair is identical to the NX41 model we recently offered. Louis Kalff’s creations reflect Philips’ ambition to combine lighting quality, technical innovation, and timeless elegance—making these vintage lights especially sought after today by European design enthusiasts.
