  • Hamsa-shapedKendi, richly decorated, probably from the Si Satchanalai or Sawankhalok kilns, 15th/16th century.
  • Kendi were used for a wide variety of purposes in addition to their main function as pouring or drinking vessels. In Southeast Asia, they were important ritual vessels used for ceremonies such as weddings.
  • Hamsa is a swan or goose, the mount of the creator god Brahma. It is a symbol of purity, detachment, divine knowledge, cosmic breath and supreme spiritual fulfillment.
  • Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau.
