Bastiano 2-seater KnollStudio sofa in red leather by Tobia Scarpa
Designed by Tobia Scarpa, the Bastiano sofa is among the most iconic creations of modernist Italian design. Originally developed in the 1960s and later reissued by KnollStudio, this model has become a benchmark in contemporary furniture thanks to its balance of architectural rigor, comfort, and simplicity of form.
The Bastiano’s design is based on a deliberately exposed structure in which the upholstered elements appear simply set within a solid-wood frame. This minimalist approach, characteristic of Tobia Scarpa’s work, highlights the construction while maintaining a particularly light, elegant silhouette.
This 2-seater example features a clean-lined frame paired with cushions upholstered in red leather. The deep seat and low proportions enhance comfort while preserving the modernist aesthetic typical of Italian creations from this period.
Reissued by KnollStudio, the Bastiano sofa continues one of the most important collaborations in 20th-century Italian design. KnollStudio productions are valued for their build quality, precision joinery, and respect for the original proportions conceived by Tobia Scarpa.
Thanks to its timeless design and deliberately legible architecture, the Bastiano remains a sought-after piece today in both modernist and contemporary interiors.
