This pair of traditional Nepalese bronze guardian lions symbolizes both spiritual protection and divine power. Emblematic of Tantric Buddhist iconography, these Simha are distinguished by their proud posture, vigorous bodies and particularly refined ornamentation.
A finely sculpted chain adorns their necks and holds a bell, evoking vigilance and purification – a reminder of their role as protectors of sacred places and repellents of harmful influences. Their meticulously chiseled manes illustrate the virtuosity of Nepalese workshops.
On the top of their heads, a jewel-shaped protuberance – assimilated to the *cintamani* – symbolizes spiritual enlightenment and granted wishes.
Traditionally displayed in pairs at the entrance to temples and shrines, these lions embody the balance of forces, cosmic harmony and protection of the Dharma. Every detail, from the muscular paws to the tail ornaments, reveals their sacred function as much as their artistic quality – a choice piece for lovers of ancient Buddhist art.
