Maarten Van Severen and the MVS model
Designed by Maarten Van Severen, the MVS Lounge Chair, produced by Durlet, is among his most representative works. It combines formal rigor, controlled comfort, and discreet engineering. The chair rests on a circular powder-coated metal base that ensures stability and the overall tilt, thanks to an integrated mechanism allowing a smooth transition between seated and reclined positions.
The seat is made up of rectilinear volumes upholstered in black leather, in the designer’s minimalist vocabulary: taut lines, controlled proportions, no superfluous details. The seat, backrest, and leg rest form a geometric continuity that enhances the clarity of the whole.
Produced by Durlet, this model benefits from careful manufacturing, faithful to Van Severen’s standards: precise joinery, quality materials, and structural coherence. It is part of the tradition of contemporary Belgian design, where function is expressed through an economy of means and great formal clarity.
The MVS Van Severen lounge chair presented here is in very good condition. A comfortable, sculptural piece, representative of the work of the Belgian designer.
