More details:
Bronze: Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, commonly used for sculptures. However, in Asia, some alloys may contain other metals, so the term “copper alloys” may be more accurate, but it is still correct to mention bronze (or Asian bronze).
Presumed contents: Areca nut is often mistakenly called “betel nut” because it is eaten with betel leaf, but they are two distinct elements. The areca nut comes from the betel palm, while the betel leaf comes from the climbing pepper tree. The common use of these two elements together in the same preparations has led to this terminological confusion.
Period mentioned: This piece was dated by two experts during the general inventory of Claude de Marteau’s estate. We have transcribed the dates according to this expertise.
