Paola Tall Teak Bar Cabinet by Oswald Vermaercke
Produced by Belgian publisher V-Form under the direction of Oswald Vermaercke, this tall teak bar cabinet belongs to the “Paola” series, developed from the late 1950s in a context strongly influenced by post-war Scandinavian design. The model name references the future Queen Paola of Belgium, whose marriage to Prince Albert took place in 1959.
The piece is distinguished by its balanced vertical proportions and the depth of its teak grain. The contrasting nuances of the wood contribute strongly to the model’s visual presence while maintaining great modernist sobriety.
The central bar compartment with drop-down door reveals a fitted interior designed for storing bottles and glasses. This functional design, highly representative of high-end furniture from the 1960s, demonstrates the attention paid to everyday use in Vermaercke’s creations for V-Form.
The discreetly integrated handles and the slender, slightly tapered base reinforce the architectural balance of the whole. This pursuit of visual lightness despite substantial proportions is among the most recognizable signatures of V-Form productions from this period.
The surfaces have been carefully restored while preserving the natural nuances of the teak and the depth of its grain developed over time.
