Bronze Hayagriva, Tibet

3200,00

  • This bronze image depicts Hayagrīva in yab-yum with his consort Nairatma, deities of Vajrayāna tantric Buddhism. The composition shows him in a dynamic pratyalīḍha posture, legs spread, body surrounded by multiple arms brandishing ritual attributes, wings spread and a tiger skin covering his back. His expressive face, with protruding eyes and gaping mouth, is topped by flaming hair from which a horse’s head emerges – the distinctive sign of this event.
  • Considered one of the great protectors of the Dharma, Hayagrīva is one of the one hundred and eight emanations ofAvalokiteśvara, the bodhisattva of infinite compassion, whose wrathful aspect he embodies. It is invoked to repel obstacles, demons and harmful forces that hinder spiritual practice.
  • Tibet, 19th century or earlier.
  • Very good condition, with an inking tenon missing under the left legs, but not preventing the work from being held in place.
