Bodhisattva Manjushri in copper alloy, Tibet
- From his lotus throne, Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom, turns the wheel of dharma in the gesture of teaching. As a great teacher, he carries both the sword of knowledge (Prajna) and/or manuscripts (sutras) of Buddhist teachings, which bloom on lotus flowers along each of his arms.
- Like the lotus flower that rises from the muddy waters where he sits, Manjushri crosses ignorance to reveal a landscape freed from the veil of ignorance. Her jeweled attire testifies to her noble achievements, and her richly adorned body contrasts with the simplicity of her contemplative face.
