ARP Coquetier Armchairs – 1950s French design
Black tubular steel frame composed of three rings, including a central “floating” ring, held in tension between the upper and lower white sheathed ropes. This tension is still well-preserved in the structure of both armchairs.
Set preserved in its original condition, including ropes. The complexity of the knots around the central ring is a distinctive element (see photos).
Founded in 1954, the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (ARP) brought together Michel Mortier, Joseph-André Motte, and Pierre Guariche until 1957, with the aim of designing innovative, both technical and aesthetic, furniture for French industry.
This is the exact model, including color, used in the decor of Villa Arpel in the film Mon Oncle, as illustrated by the iconographic documentation.
