Selection of furniture designed by Florence Knoll, a leading figure of 20th-century American modernist design. An architect and designer trained under Mies van der Rohe and Eliel Saarinen, she played a pivotal role in the post-war development of Knoll Associates, establishing a cohesive vision for contemporary furniture and interior layout.

Florence Knoll’s creations are characterized by their clean lines, architectural rigor, and careful attention to proportions. Tables, desks, sideboards, seating, and storage units favor noble materials such as chrome-plated steel, marble, wood, or high-end laminates, in an approach directly inherited from international modernism.

Unlike other designers of the 1950s and 1960s, Florence Knoll did not develop an extensive collection of wall lights or floor lamps. Her work in lighting nevertheless includes several remarkable creations, including an elegant marble lamp that has become iconic of post-war American design. This approach to modern lighting naturally dialogues with the major names in designer furniture and lighting produced by Knoll during the 20th century.

Florence Knoll also helped popularize a new conception of professional and residential space, where furniture forms a cohesive whole conceived in its entirety. Her work dialogues with that of designers such as Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, or Mies van der Rohe, also represented in our selection of 20th-century design furniture.
