Florence Knoll rosewood sideboard with marble top
Rare designer sideboard designed by Florence Knoll for Knoll International, produced in the 1970s. This modernist storage unit combines deep-grained rosewood veneer with an elegant original marble top, in a design characteristic of post-war American furniture.
A major figure in 20th-century design, Florence Knoll developed an architectural approach to furniture influenced by Mies van der Rohe and the international modernist aesthetic. Her creations were designed to structure residential spaces as well as American offices and administrative headquarters.
The woodwork has been completely refurbished by our restorer and is now in impeccable condition, with no visible wear. The rosewood reveals the full depth of its grain and the richness of its natural patterns. The steel base has been fully polished and then re-chromed by electrolytic bath, with the exception of the original glides which have been preserved.
The marble is period and shows some normal signs of age, including light foxing and a discreet gray shadow. The closing mechanism is present, but the lock is no longer functional.

The closing mechanism of the Knoll unit is still functional, but the lock cylinder could not be restored.
Thanks to its compact proportions, this vintage sideboard can be used in a living room as a high-end TV stand, as well as in an office, bedroom, or reception area. The unit features a back finish identical to the front, also allowing it to be used as a room divider.
Rosewood versions with marble tops are among the most sought-after variations of Florence Knoll furniture. This wood species is no longer produced for this model, reinforcing the particularly desirable character of this vintage 1970s version.
