Kinkeldey faceted crystal ceiling light, 1970s

Large square ceiling light produced by Kinkeldey in the 1970s, combining a metal frame with faceted crystal elements cut into diamond points.

Composed of 48 rectangular double-point crystal modules, it captures and multiplies the light, creating a dense, structured lighting effect. This assembly, characteristic of the maker, is based on a rigorous repetition of elements, enhancing the overall visual presence. The crystal elements have been fully disassembled and individually cleaned (see photo).

The aesthetic balances decorative opulence with structural rigor, characteristic of Kinkeldey’s work during this period.

Thanks to its format, this ceiling light can also be used as a wall sconce. It is a statement piece suited to both large volumes and more compact spaces.

Signature Kinkeldey lighting, 1960s–1970s

Kinkeldey is a German manufacturer with a relatively niche production, primarily active during the 1960s and 1970s. The company specialized in lighting—flush mounts, chandeliers, and sconces—combining brass or chrome-plated steel frames with high-quality crystal elements.

Its creations are based on the use of crystal plates and pendants cut in single or double diamond points, mounted on polished metal supports. This stylistic vocabulary, applied with rigor, constitutes the publisher’s signature.

The repetition of these crystal elements, combined with reflections from brass or chrome, creates a dense and structured lighting effect. The design relies on the interplay between material and light, without the need for additional ornamentation.

This principle, both technical and visual, gives Kinkeldey lighting a bold presence, rooted in high-quality craftsmanship and precise assembly.

The company’s creations have also received several iF Design Awards, an international honor established in Germany in 1953 and considered a major benchmark in industrial design. Awarded by an independent jury of experts, this prize recognizes annual achievements for design quality, innovation, and execution. Kinkeldey received eight iF Design Awards, reflecting the prestige of its lighting within the European design landscape of the era.
