This 1970s serving cart, produced in Denmark by Dyrlund, is a vintage teak bar unit, truly designed for service and easily movable thanks to its four chrome casters. Its three tiers combine teak with black laminate surfaces, while a removable cutting board completes the upper section.

Both a bar cart and an occasional piece, it fully embodies the vocabulary of Scandinavian furniture from this period: light construction, clearly defined functions, and an emphasis on wood rather than ornamentation.

Dyrlund, Danish Furniture Since the 1960s

Founded in Denmark in 1960, Dyrlund specialized in furniture for both private interiors and executive offices. The manufacturer places particular importance on noble wood species, traditional Danish joinery, and hand-finished details.

The brand itself emphasizes the importance of the oiled finish in its domestic furniture: it preserves the natural feel of the wood and also facilitates subsequent interventions for minor signs of wear. This philosophy aligns particularly well with this type of teak furniture, designed for daily use rather than mere display.

Teak Restoration in Our Workshop

This serving cart has been carefully restored in our workshop. The woodwork has been cleaned, sanded, and oiled to revive the warmth of the teak while retaining the character and nuances acquired over time.

The photograph taken during the intervention shows the work performed on the furniture’s surfaces before their final finish. This restoration respects the original construction and aims to achieve a uniform feel and a deeper appreciation of the grain without masking the wood under an opaque finish.

A Removable Cutting Board Restored with Almond Oil

The removable board is one of the most original details of this Dyrlund serving cart. Made of solid wood and carved with a peripheral groove, it is designed as a true preparation surface, independent of the rest of the furniture.

It was sanded then nourished with almond oil, compatible with food use, to revive the natural color of the wood. The oil penetrates the material rather than creating a film on the surface, thus preserving the warm feel of the wood and its natural appearance. After several decades of use, slight knife marks persist.

The difference achieved after treatment is particularly noticeable on this piece: the wood regains deeper nuances, the variations in the grain become more legible, and the surface recovers a much softer feel.

A Scandinavian Bar Cart as Functional as it is Decorative

With its three tiers, removable board, resistant surfaces, and chrome casters, this Dyrlund serving cart retains all the functional relevance of its design today. It can accommodate bottles and glasses in a living room, accompany a dining table and its sideboard, or serve as a small mobile unit for preparation and service.
