Kuruma Tansu, wheeled chest.

  • “Kuruma Tansu” i.e. wheeled storage chest made mainly from chestnut and elm (Kiri/Keyaki), Mikuni region, Japan, Edo period, first quarter of the 19th century.
  • These chests have become quite rare, as they were banned due to the congestion they caused in the streets during major fires.
  • Provenance: Estate of art dealer and collector Claude de Marteau.
  • Sold with certificate of origin.
