Vintage Kalmar Pagoda glass ceiling light – 1970s
Featuring transparent glass elements arranged in a crown-like formation on a metallic frame, the “Pagoda” or “Pagode” ceiling light by Kalmar transforms a relatively compact fixture into a true sculptural composition. The molded glass pieces, whose tiered form evokes a pagoda, capture light along their edges and multiply reflections when illuminated.
Created in Vienna during the 1970s, this model is among the most characteristic designs by J.T. Kalmar, where the repetition of glass elements provides a significant visual presence without weighing down the ceiling.
A designer ceiling light for rooms where height is a consideration
Its low profile makes it a particularly compelling alternative to a pendant light when seeking a vintage glass ceiling fixture for a living room, entryway, hallway, or bedroom with limited ceiling height. The transparent glass maintains a sense of lightness while diffusing decorative light throughout the space.
The geometry of the Pagoda model allows for seamless integration into contemporary interiors: its combination of glass and metal complements both 1960s and 70s furniture as well as modern architecture.
