  • Buddha Shakyamuni depicted in bhumisparsa mudra on his throne, richly decorated with friezes and gilded floral motifs on a brown / burgundy lacquer background.
  • He is entirely focused on his hand’s contact with the earth, calling the earth goddess Bhumi to witness her victory over Mara (“Maravijana”), a remarkable head with spiky curls.
    The ushnisha is enhanced by a lotus bud, symbolizing his great spirituality.
  • Burma, 18th century.
