Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1956, this table is part of Arne Jacobsen‘s overall project, where each furniture element contributes to a coherent vision of architecture and design.
This model was produced for only a short period. Most known examples are made of teak and often lack extensions. A rosewood version retaining its two original extensions, in this state of preservation, remains particularly rare.
The Model 3605 extension table by Arne Jacobsen is featured in the introduction of Dominic Bradbury‘s work, Icons of Modern Furniture, published by La Martinière. It also appears in the Fritz Hansen – Furniture catalog, no. 6802, p. 46.
The rosewood top features rich, contrasting grain, characteristic of Danish productions from this period. The nickel-plated steel base, resting on wooden feet, gives the piece great visual lightness while ensuring excellent stability.
