Repoussé silver thangka (no hallmark), sealed on the back with a copper plate decorated with a double vajra (Viśvavajra, “vajra of the universe”) marking its ritual completion. Tibet, early 20th century.

Yamāntaka is the wrathful form of Mañjushrî, bodhisattva of wisdom. He embodies non-dual wisdom that ends the dualistic perception of phenomena linked to ignorance. Yamāntaka is also known as Vajrabhairava (“Diamond Terror”).

Former Claude de Marteau collection.
