Vintage modernist table lamp from the 1950s combining a conical turquoise lacquered metal shade with a brass structure. Its design is based on a search for balance typical of the post-war period, where sobriety of line excludes neither elegance nor technical ingenuity.

The lamp is distinguished by its double swivel system, a relatively uncommon feature that allows for precise orientation of the arm and shade. Connoisseurs will appreciate this more sophisticated mechanical solution than the single-jointed mounts generally found on desk lamps of the period.

This combination of functionality and constructive elegance is fully in line with the research carried out by several French designers of the 1950s, including Jean-Boris Lacroix, Pierre Guariche, or Robert Mathieu. The circular brass base and its subtly beveled cylindrical stem contribute to the balance of the design, visually lightening the whole despite the articulated mechanics. This attention to detail is reflected in the shade, perforated with a frieze of small openings that reveal a discreet halo of light when the lamp is lit.

The turquoise paint has been entirely redone in keeping with the original shade, and the electricity has been overhauled. The lamp is now equipped with a recently manufactured twisted textile cord, in compliance with current standards of use.

A modernist lamp designed for movement

The double articulation is not a simple technical detail. It participates fully in the design of the object by allowing great freedom of adjustment while preserving the purity of its silhouette. This combination of functionality and aesthetics remains one of the most seductive signatures of 1950s modernist lighting. Between a desk lamp and a decorative table lamp, this light remains fully relevant today through the quality of its design and the intelligence of its conception. This apparent contradiction between mechanical sophistication and visual lightness is the essence of the charm of many 1950s light fixtures, where innovation always serves a certain elegance and a rediscovered sense of joie de vivre.

A restoration true to its original spirit

This photograph, taken during the restoration, shows the work carried out on the paintwork and electrical system. The original turquoise green hue was preserved to maintain the light fixture’s identity.
