Maravijaya Buddha on throne, Konbaung period

3600,00

  • Large Maravijaya Buddha in carved wood, wine-red lacquer and gilding. Burma (Myanmar), Shan princely states, late 18th century, Konbaung period (1752–1885).
  • At this time, the Shan princely states produced works that diverged from the strict Mandalay canon: a more restrained facial treatment, less stylized eyebrows, and volumes still inherited from Ava.
  • The treatment of the throne of this sculpture clearly belongs to the Konbaung period, while the formal vocabulary—especially the face—remains steeped in the Ava style. Donor inscriptions on the upper surface of the throne.
  • Provenance: Collection Claude de Marteau.
  • Sold with certificate of origin.
  • H 75 CM X D 20 CM X W 29 CM.
