Zyklus Leather Armchair by Peter Maly
Designed in the early 1980s by German designer Peter Maly, the Zyklus model is now one of the most iconic pieces of European postmodern design. Its circular design, composed of interlocking tubular volumes, develops an instantly recognizable silhouette, characteristic of certain radical aesthetic explorations that emerged in 1980s design.
The Zyklus stands out with its low architecture and deep seat, conceived for particularly free and informal use. The combination of curved forms and black leather reinforces the sculptural character of the model while retaining the comfort typical of lounge productions from this period.
Through its circular design (Zyklus means circle in German), atypical volumes, and wheeled base, the Zyklus model reflects the postmodern explorations of the 1980s, a period during which a part of European design gradually moved away from strict modernist functionalism in favor of freer and more expressive approaches.
The armchair presented here retains a beautiful visual presence with a leather patina developed over time. The generous proportions and the circular construction of the backrest contribute to the model’s immediately identifiable identity.
