An early LC4 edition, prior to the Cassina designation

Figli di Amedeo Cassina label on the base of an LC4 chaise longue

This LC4 chaise longue – late 1950s edition, designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, represents one of the most accomplished expressions of modernist design. Conceived as a “resting machine,” it is based on a rational approach to comfort, where form follows function directly.

Its tubular steel structure supports a mobile shell, allowing for free adjustment of the recline. This simple principle, without complex mechanisms, ensures remarkable ergonomics and an immediate understanding of the object.

The presented example is distinguished by its edition, produced during a period when the company was still active under the name Figli di Amedeo Cassina, before the adoption of the name Cassina. This production phase, at the crossroads of structured craftsmanship and design industrialization, remains less common on the market.

Founded in 1927 in Meda by the Cassina family, the company began a transition towards modern production after the war, collaborating with leading architects and designers. This evolution would lead to the structuring of the publisher as it is known today.

Through its quality of execution and its place in the history of production, this LC4 chaise longue is of particular interest, both as a design piece and as evidence of a still relatively early phase of its distribution.
