A lamp with 1960s Italian design accents
With its wide red reflector in woven plastic fibers, evoking a parasol, and its slender brass arms, this elegant Royal Kelma lamp creates an immediately identifiable silhouette. Light diffuses softly beneath the adjustable disk, while the three light points animate the piece like a floral arrangement. Each bulb is delicately supported by a perforated brass tulip, highlighted by a lacquered metal petal.
Although the manufacturer is likely Swiss or German — Royal Kelma remains little documented — this lamp fits an aesthetic close to 1950s–1960s Italian design, evoking the productions of Stilnovo or Arredoluce under the influence of designers like Giuseppe Ostuni or Oscar Torlasco. It features the characteristic balance between a brass structure, bold colors, and light volumes.
A true postcard, it evokes the sunny and carefree atmosphere of the 1960s Italian Riviera.
This atmosphere is also found in a ceiling light by the same manufacturer held in our archives.
Despite their near-mint condition, these two lamps have had their wiring replaced by our restorer.
