Celadon Stoneware Jar
This large celadon stoneware jar features a generous and balanced form, characteristic of Southeast Asian production from the late 19th century. Its short neck and slightly thickened lip fit within a utilitarian typology intended for storing liquids or foodstuffs.
The celadon glaze, with subtle green nuances, covers the entire surface, including the interior (brown glaze), confirming its use as a container. An antique object, now appreciated as much for its character and proportions as for its decorative presence.
Archival photographs document the presence of these jars on Claude de Marteau’s property, contributing to the attestation of their provenance.

Jars preserved in the courtyard garden of Claude de Marteau’s property.
A comparable example sold for €3,300 at Sotheby’s on 5 April 2023, placing this type of production in an established international market.
