Gino Sarfatti and model 1086: a functional approach to lighting
The model 1086 floor lamp, designed in 1961 by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce, reflects a pursuit of formal and technical efficiency characteristic of his work. The black lacquered steel base and stem are paired with an aluminium reflector mounted on a ball joint, allowing precise light adjustment. This design prioritises functionality while maintaining a clean, balanced graphic presence.
Founder of Arteluce in 1939, Sarfatti developed over 600 models during his career, helping to profoundly renew 20th-century lighting design. Several of his creations are now held in public collections.
Model 1086 belongs to that early-1960s generation of luminaires in which purity of line and technical precision align with a controlled modernist aesthetic.
