Five Scandinavian teak chairs – 1960s
This set of five Scandinavian chairs from the 1960s illustrates the elegance and quality of execution characteristic of furniture from this period, heavily influenced by Danish design. Crafted in warm-toned teak, they are distinguished by their high slatted backrests and particularly slender proportions. The upper rail provides additional support to the upper back, a feature that encourages a more restful posture, especially appreciated during long meals around the table.
Each backrest is composed of thin vertical teak slats, set on edge and slightly curved. They meet a wide, curved upper rail whose raised ends harmoniously extend the rear uprights. This construction provides great visual lightness while naturally following the curvature of the spine.
The tapered legs, discreet stretchers, and meticulous joinery contribute to the overall balance of the piece. The seats, upholstered in an ecru wool fabric, offer a soft contrast to the warm tones of the wood.
A model often attributed to Arne Vodder
These chairs exhibit the characteristics of Model 422, frequently attributed to Danish designer Arne Vodder and associated with the manufacturer Sibast Møbler in the 1960s. Their slender silhouette, fine curved slatted backrests, and sculpted upper rails vaguely recall this Danish furniture model, though their headrests are ultimately even closer to the productions of Schiønning & Elgaard from the same period.

The finesse of the legs and the high spindle backrest emphasize the elegance of this Danish teak chair.
Both elegant and functional, these five chairs will naturally find their place around a vintage dining table, whether antique or contemporary. Their airy design allows them to integrate into various environments without weighing down the space.
Careful restoration in our workshop
These five chairs were restored in our workshop. The seats were removed to allow for thorough work on the teak frames. The joints were checked and reinforced where necessary, while the woodwork was refinished to restore its sheen and reveal the wood’s natural grain.
This work preserves the chairs’ authenticity while ensuring their strength and durability. The off-white wool seats also received a thorough cleaning with a professional upholstery shampooer.
