Gilt bronze Buddha statue, Thailand, Rattanakosin period

From the 13th century, Buddha is depicted in a particularly elegant slender form with a tall flame-shaped appendix on the head, a symbol of wisdom.

• This image of the “Monday” Buddha is made of gilt copper alloy, its hands depicted in abhaya mudra (Absence of fear). It stands on an octagonal four-tiered lotus pedestal.
• Thailand (Siam), Rattanakosin period (1782-1932). This piece dates from the early 20th century.
• It is still sealed with its export license from the Department of Fine Arts of Thailand, dated in the Buddhist calendar to the year 2516, which is 1973 in our calendar.
