Sgrafo Modern Porcelain Lamps – underglaze botanical decor
This pair of Sgrafo Modern lamps originates from a factory founded in 1908 in Rudolstadt-Volkstedt, Thuringia. From its inception, the factory was renowned for the quality of its porcelain and the meticulous care taken in its execution. Its owners, Ackermann and Fritze, registered it as a “manufacturer of the highest quality art porcelains.”
In the 1950s, under the impetus of Peter Müller, the workshop developed a characteristic technique known as “sgrafo,” based on superimposing layers of material revealed by incision. This process allowed for the creation of patterns integrated into the very structure of the object, rather than merely applied to the surface.
The original lampshades firmly anchor the set in its era and assert a typical decorative vocabulary, not without an irresistible, well-bred kitsch.
Compact in size, these lamps are distinguished by the quality of their craftsmanship and the finesse of their decor, characteristic of Sgrafo Modern’s most refined productions.
