Hindu ritual set with bull and rats (Shiva & Ganesh)

  • Hindu ritual box, depicting a bull (metal or bronze) surrounded by four rats. Indonesia, 19th century, possibly Bali.
  • Dedicated to Shiva and Ganesh, the bull (Nandi) is the vehicle of the former, while the rats are that of the latter.
  • Rats wear two colors: yellow symbolizes knowledge and learning (mental development, meditation) as well as happiness, peace and stability. It is also the color of Ganesh. In Hinduism, red represents honor, love and prosperity.
  • Dimensions: L 52 CM X W 33 CM x H 37 CM
  • Provenance: Estate of dealer and collector Claude de Marteau (private apartments)
  • Sold with certificate of origin.
  • Shipped in a custom-made box, on a small pallet, by carrier.
