The Kumela glassworks, located in Riihimäki from 1936 to 1985 and founded by brothers Toivo, Ilmari and Oiva Kumela, initially specialized in painting and glass engraving, before developing a broader post-war production range including utility glass, medical glassware, bottles and glass for lighting fixtures.
In the 1950s, Maija Carlson collaborated with Kumela, contributing her creations and participating in the artistic identity of the glassworks.
