Nuptial Ghodi horse, India.

  • Traditional wooden wedding horse(Ghodi), probably Rajasthan, India, first half 20th century
  • Decorated with stamped brass ornaments, the body is solid wood, the head brass or bronze.
  • White horses, usually mares, are part of the Indian bridal procession (known in Hindu and Sikh traditions as baraat).
Even today, brides and grooms often travel to their weddings on horseback, although for practical reasons it’s becoming increasingly common for them to arrive by car. After dismounting, the horse performs complex dances, such as jumps and so on. A replica of the horse is then presented to the bride’s family.
